Transduction.

The one-sentence version

Transduction is the irreversible event by which a metastable field resolves into a distinct regime — a closure that did not exist before and cannot be undone without further transductive work. It is ontogony’s core operator.

Where the term comes from

Simondon introduced transduction to describe how pre-individual potential crystallises into individuated actuality without remainder. Ontogony extends the term beyond individuation to any level-generating resolution: physical phase transitions, organic cell-fate decisions, cognitive reframings, and institutional bifurcations are all transductions at their respective registers.

Why it matters

Every level of reality — every regime with its own burn rate, norm-set, and cessation signature — arrived through a transduction. To understand how levels are real and not merely epistemic, you must understand how fields resolve; and that resolution is always irreversible, always costly, and always productive of novelty that could not have been read off the prior state.
